Who we are
This website, www.thejoshsweeney.com, is run by Josh Sweeney (“we” or “us”). If you have a question about this policy or your information, email info@thejoshsweeney.com.
What we collect
What you send us
When you use the contact form, we receive what you enter:
- your name and email address (required)
- your phone number and preferred date (optional)
- the services you are interested in: sponsorship, appearance, keynote or motivational speech
- anything you write in the comments box
What is collected automatically
- Analytics. We use Google Analytics 4 to see how the site is used: which pages are visited, the type of device and browser, the general location worked out from your IP address, and how you arrived at the site. Google Analytics uses cookies to do this. We also use Vercel Web Analytics, which counts page views without cookies and without storing your IP address.
- Hosting logs. Our host, Vercel, records basic technical details of each visit, such as your IP address, browser and the pages requested, to run and protect the site.
- Bot check. The contact form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to tell people from automated spam. Turnstile looks at signals from your browser and device when you use the form.
Apart from Google Analytics, the site itself sets no cookies.
How we use it
- to reply to your message and arrange speaking engagements, appearances or sponsorships
- to understand how the site is used and improve it
- to keep the site and the contact form secure and free of spam
- to meet legal obligations
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for targeted advertising.
Who helps us run the site
These companies process information on our behalf, or when your browser loads something from them:
- Vercel hosts the site, keeps the hosting logs and runs the service that sends the contact form.
- Twilio SendGrid delivers contact form messages to our inbox by email.
- Cloudflare runs the Turnstile bot check on the contact form.
- Google provides Google Analytics, and Google Fonts, which loads the site’s typefaces from Google’s servers. Loading a font shares your IP address with Google.
- Font Awesome (Fonticons, Inc.) serves the site’s icons from its servers.
- YouTube (Google) supplies the video thumbnails, which load from YouTube’s image servers. A video player loads only when you press play, from YouTube’s privacy-enhanced domain, youtube-nocookie.com. Once a video plays, YouTube’s own privacy policy applies.
- Behold supplies the latest posts from Josh’s Instagram account that appear on the site. We collect the posts when the site is updated, not when you visit, and Behold sets no cookies here. The photos load from Behold’s image servers (behold.pictures), which shares your IP address with Behold.
- Instagram (Meta) is where those posts come from. Selecting one opens it on Instagram, where Instagram’s own privacy policy applies.
Each of these companies handles information under its own privacy policy. We may also share information if the law requires it, to protect our rights or safety, or as part of a sale or transfer of the business.
Links to other sites
The site links to Josh’s profiles on Instagram, LinkedIn and Facebook, and to videos on YouTube. Those sites have their own privacy policies, which apply once you go there.
Cookies and your choices
Google Analytics sets cookies named _ga and _ga_ followed by an ID. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. The site still works without these cookies.
[Decide when GA4 is set up: whether to show a consent banner and use Google Consent Mode, whether to honor Global Privacy Control signals, and confirm Google signals and ad personalization are turned off.]
How long we keep it
- Contact form messages: the website doesn’t store them. Each message is delivered to our email inbox, where we keep it as long as we need it to respond and keep a record of the conversation. Email us to have yours deleted.
- Analytics data: [2 or 14 months], the retention setting chosen in Google Analytics.
- Hosting logs: kept by Vercel for the period set out in its policies.
Your rights
You can ask us to tell you what information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. Depending on where you live, including California and other U.S. states with privacy laws, you may also have the right to opt out of the sale of personal information, of sharing it for targeted advertising, and of profiling. We do not do any of these. We will not treat you differently for using your rights.
To make a request, email info@thejoshsweeney.com. We may need to confirm your identity first. If we decline a request, you can ask us to reconsider by replying to our answer.
Children
This site is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has sent us information, email info@thejoshsweeney.com and we will delete it.
Security
The site is served over an encrypted connection (HTTPS), and access to contact form messages is limited to the people who need to answer them. No method of sending or storing information is completely secure.
Where your information is processed
We are based in the United States, and the companies above may process information in the United States and other countries.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the new version here and update the date at the top.
